Backing Up Your Self-Hosted Site: A Backup Strategy for Databases, Files, and Configs with Offsite Storage

What you need to back up on a self-hosted site isn't "the whole server" but three types of assets: the database (transactions and content), files (user uploads and media), and configs (code and environment). The three have completely different backup frequencies and methods, and backing them up together will...

Taming Third-Party Scripts on Your DTC Site: Tag Audit, Load Order, Performance Impact, and Alternatives

Third-party scripts are the biggest hidden cost to your site's performance. HTTP Archive counts an average of ten-plus third-party scripts per page, and B2B sites running analytics, chat, pixels, heatmaps, and A/B testing often exceed 12, with half of them blocking the main thread above the fold. Governance takes four steps: first, use Lighthouse's "Third-party usage" audit to list every script, then grade them P0 through P3. Load P0 core scripts with async + preconnect, delay P1 support scripts by 2 to 3 seconds, load P2 experimental scripts after user interaction, and remove P3 redundant scripts outright. One counterintuitive call: stuffing every script into GTM is not performance optimization. GTM is just a scheduler, and the scripts' own execution time doesn't drop by a single millisecond.
